A mixology of trends tried, adopted and expelled.

Matcha-ization

Matcha tea (aka the stronger, more flavourful and beneficial cousin of our ex-obsession REGULAR green tea) was the drink of choice for the 12th-century Buddhist monks, and today we are in the midst of a green revolution with this talcum-like superfood having penetrated into our food chain and…life. From cakes and beauty products to memes and a whole range of “I love you so matcha” merchandise, there’s no avoiding it. (And honestly, who wants to?)

Removing the Blue Tick Feature on WhatsApp

Personally my favourite, known to reduce risks of anxiety and overthinking in mankind. Must try!!!

Gel Nails

Regular mani-pedis have given up their time in the sun for the new kid on the block- GEL. Nail bars, and UV light have never received more love with women going crazy over their claw taming. I sometimes observe the nails of the women in yoga class and its like a who-wore-it-better situation with different rhinestones, glitter, shapes and colours outdoing each other. We’ll have to wait this one out to see if it’s a fad, but as things stand, a regular French just won’t do.

Millennial Pink is the New Orange

Who would have ever thought people (yes, both men and women) would ever go nuts over pink. The fashion and design industry are generously tipping buckets of millennial pink over everything they can get their hand on, for unlike fuchsia and hot pink’s extremely girly reputation, millennial pink is desaturated, cheeky and nostalgic— making it the new genderless mascot. From the exteriors of The Grand Budapest Hotel to the packaging of brands like Acne Studios and Glossier, this colour is marking a new wave of androgyny.

Contour + Highlight. Repeat.

For better or for worse, chiseling ones face seems to be on the rise, with more products filling the market, making it impossible to leave Sephora without a bronzer, highlighter or both. Mega celeb product lines like Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty and Kim Kardashian’s KKW have made it harder to not indulge.

There’s a diet for everyone

Want to stop eating something but not completely, want to have it on your vacation but not too much? Good news, there are now a bunch of new diets on the rise, waiting to be adopted to match your lifestyle. The concept of being a vegetarian OR non-vegetarian seem unglamorously archaic and over simplified, you can instead try becoming a Climatarian, Ovotarian Pescatarian, Flexitarian or Veganarian. Fret not, there’s a diet for you, and if there isn’t, you can make one up.

Denims

If you- like most of us- surrendered your denims to the back of your closet over time, you may agree that 2017 seduced you into fishing them out and giving them a second chance. This 70’s trend was given a sartorial facelift with every imaginable variation arising- ripped, cropped, embroidered, fringed, panelled, patched, layered; mom, boyfriend, boot, flare- this year has successfully celebrated and reminded us of the versatility of this blue and white fabric.

Pom Poms

If you want to destroy a perfectly looking piece of ANYTHING with one master stroke, it must be this.

Any other trends you've noticed? Let me know!

Stay tuned. Stay inspired.
