My take on Swapping

I have developed a passion and keen interest for sustainable fashion over the past year and I have Singapore to thank for it. My internship here, the events I’ve attended and the people I’ve interacted with have all contributed to me becoming an increasingly conscious consumer. April being Fashion Revolution month served up many sustainable events and I finally got the chance to take part in Swapaholics. I had to drop of the clothes that I wanted to swap a week before the event (9 garments) post which I received a warm email from the team telling me the number of points I had collected- 24. On the day of the event the venue was set up like a boutique with a vast range of silhouettes, colours and styles and I spent an hour picking up clothes and accessories which I hoped I had more hands to carry. I approached the counter with eight items and involuntarily reached for my wallet in my bag, and then laughed to myself and put it back in.
My thoughts The venue was packed with mostly women and some men taking their pick of clothes and long queues to the make-shift changing room which was identical to those one sees at Zara. This initiative is such a brilliant one in more ways than one. It adds a fun spin on sustainability offering shoppers a satisfying experience where they leave with many garments by simply clearing out their own closet. It’s a win-win situation, completely free and a good experience. I returned with a lot of nice pieces that I would have spent around $200 on if I had bought them from a store.
