I’m always looking for ways to break the monotony of college lectures and deadlines, and what better way to do that than some mid-week inspiration? After getting over the initial separation anxiety of moving away from home, I was amazed by the amount of time I had to spend in my own company, which translated into me starting to use this time to work towards self improvement.

This week I went for another Wedge event that revolved around the topic of ‘how to be the magnet in the room’. Apart from the insightful talks, the Korean bento box, pumpkin spice kombucha and sea salt and chocolate cookies really made me a happy girl by the end of the three hours.

We focus so much on saying smart things which is definitely important but often the way you deliver your message, the energy you project is underestimated. Whatever your message might be your energy will be felt with everyone in the room whether people are conscious about it or less. If you have a good vibe, people will be drawn to you even if you’re not the best at what you do. It’s important to keep your energy high, stay inspired, stay active and be in a good mood. To do this, go for a walk, meditate, take a proper lunch break or anything else that will help your mind stay in the right place. Technology is disrupting industries but it will never replace emotional intelligence, negotiation, sale skills, empathy and soft skills- so build on those skills and you won’t be replaced. Also, personalising Instagram and adding a human touch can make a difference, especially for non-glamorous industries.

Take Home Message:

Digital presence is all about telling good stories, keeping your finger on the pulse of the market, being consistent, and super passionate about whatever you’re doing. Brands need to understand their target market (Netflix does a great job at this) and make a strategy accordingly, while being agile and taking risks based on what the audience responds to- authenticity and relevance should be at the core of the this.

Take Home Message:

When you meet someone, use the first 6.8 seconds to make a positive first impression. Regardless of how you feel, people are going to judge you based on what happens in that time, but you have the power to affect this judgment with you body language, words and voice in the ratio of 6:3:1. Having said that, first impressions can be wrong. Find your power pose and use it to make you feel better when in a tense situation.

Stay tuned. Stay inspired.
